About Us

As Scouts, we believe in preparing young people with skills for life.

We encourage our members to do more, learn more and be more, by giving them the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future — skills that have helped Scouts across the world become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians.

Our meetings are usually held at the Scout Hut on Albert Street in Bottesford (NG13 0AJ).

In our group, we have the following sections: Beavers (6–8 years), Cubs (8–10½ years), and Scouts (10½–14 years).

Our meeting times

Beavers:

Mondays (6.30–7.30pm)

Cubs:

Fridays (6–7.30pm)

Scouts:

Thursdays (7–8.30pm)

If your child wants to join the adventure, or if you would like more information,
please don't hesitate to contact us.

Rupert Capleton, Group Scout Leader

"I was a Cub, a Scout and a Venture Scout when I was younger and I know the great opportunities and enjoyment that the Scout movement can bring. These experiences led me to pursue a career in the RAF and develop a keen interest in mountaineering and the outdoors. I joined as Scout Leader in Bottesford in September 2019 and have now been given the opportunity to be the GSL. I really enjoy bringing some of my experience into creating adventures and new opportunities for youngsters and supporting the Group volunteers to reach their full potential."

Maryann Barton, Beaver Scout Leader

"I am the Beaver Scout Leader for our 2nd Colony. I'm a mum of two boys, one in Scouts and one in Beavers and I was involved in both Guiding and Scouting as a child. I currently work for a national care provider for adults and children with Disabilities and Autism. I really enjoy being a leader and helping children to grow and develop skills."

Ellie Stringer, Cub Scout Leader

"I have been an Assistant Cub Leader for the past 5 years in Northern Ireland and since moving back to the area have taken on the role of Cub Leader. I love running interactive sessions that are based around what the Cubs want. The more interactive and fun the better because we all learn when having fun."

Jill Short, Assistant Cub Leader

"I am Akela's (Cub Scout Leader) mother and previously was a teacher, Brown Owl, Guide Captain and general dogsbody in Guiding!! I have come over to Scouts to support my daughter in Cubs. I was also a volunteer with The Red Cross as an event first aid volunteer. Oh, and I'm pretty ancient at 67 so I do get a chair rather than sit on the floor!"

Mark Garner, Scout Leader

"I joined the Fire Brigade as a Fire Fighter for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. From there I moved onto Urban Search and Rescue which was a specialist team that dealt with major incidents all over the world. I guess that's where my love of camping comes from! Now retired, I dabble in flying microlites and love the role as Scout Leader for the Group and supporting the development of life skills for those involved."

Katie Symonds, Assistant Scout Leader

"I grew up in New Zealand where my Dad was a Cub Leader for many years and I was in the Girl's Brigade. I also completed my Duke of Edinburgh Award. My family moved back to the UK and I followed where I have now lived for over 20 years. I work as a self‐employed carer in the community I live in. I have been an Assistant Scout Leader and organiser of the badges we give out for over two years now and I love sharing new valuable skills to the young people in our community."

Peter Briant, Chair

"I was for 10 years a Wolf Cub, Boy Scout, Senior Scout and a Rover Scout. Then warranted as a Scouter for 28 years, first as an Assistant Cub Master, then as a District Public Relations Officer, a Cub Scout Leader, a Group Scout Leader, an Assistant/Deputy District Commissioner, and finally supporting 20 Districts with 300 Cub Scout Packs totalling 7,500 Cub Scouts as an Assistant County Commissioner (Cub Scouts) in Kent."

Alex Wright, Treasurer

"I have taken over the treasurer role for 1st Bottesford Scout Group as my youngest has started Beavers. I love volunteering and find the role within the Group extremely rewarding. Outside of being the treasurer our family are first generation farmers, farming cows and sheep. We love all things outdoors and animals."

Jilly Capleton, Secretary

"With two young boys who are keen Scouting members and a husband who has been involved in Scouting since a child, it was inevitable that I would become involved in the Scouting community! The secretary role is a great way for me to use my experience in administration and project management to support all the amazing things the groups do."
